CONVEYOR WATCH SPECIALIZES IN THE EVALUATION OF CONVEYOR AND MATERIAL HANDLING SYSTEMS

Conveyor Watch can help you to reduce down-time, simplify your maintenance, cut your running costs and extend your belt life. We can help you to verify new designs, do forensic investigations and certify handover of new systems.  We are a private company who work independently of conveyor designers, builders and equipment suppliers.

BELT CONDITION MONITORING

This system is suitable for steel cord conveyor belts. The cords are magnetised and data collected as and when required. With the system, there is no need for X-ray vision to identify broken cords and corrosion.  It is more affordable it and can be done frequently to extend the safe working life of the belt. The service does not only give data to the customer, the data is interpreted by professional engineer, the findings of a visual inspection performed by a skilled technician is consolidated and a comprehensive report is presented to the client.

A full design audit can be conducted to establish the influence that each belt incidents has on the overall performance of the conveyor.

DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE TESTING AND AUDITS

We quantify the system performance by measuring all the pertinent conveyor parameters. It is an easy installation with minimal conveyor stoppage time of 10-15 minutes.    A minimum of one week of continuous monitoring is usually required, but it might be for a longer period, depending on the information required.  The readings include power, torque, current, voltage, and belt speed.

The monitoring system identifies:

  • Maximum and minimum belt tension – T1, T2 and Te
  • Starting and stopping system dynamics
  • Belt safety factors
  • Friction factors, power to tonnage relationship and loading trends
  • Drive performance, efficiency and load sharing
  • Motor performance including power, current, voltage, power factor
  • Take up performance
  • Brake performance
  • Belt tracking signatures and splice condition
  • Belt tension distribution for tripper drive systems

The main areas of application are:

  • Design verification
  • Hand-over certification
  • Preventative maintenance and reducing downtime from problem identification
  • Failure analysis and forensic investigations to identify and differentiate between cause and effect of electrical, mechanical or belting related failures.
  • Conveyor upgrade feasibilities

SPECIALIZED PLANT SURVEYS and OPTIMIZATION STUDIES

Independent audits can be conducted on the complete conveyor system. Site inspections, data collection, history research and other information gathering is performed.  All the data is analysed and interpreted with the extensive experience and knowledge accumulated over 30 years of industry involvement.  A report with meaningful conclusions and recommendations is compiled.
